(Not so) Random Photo Wednesday | Vesak – the Birth, Enlightenment and Parinirvāṇa of the Buddha

The Buddha was born in Lumbini (लुम्बिनी) in present day Nepal. The first image is from the Buddha birthday celebration at Leicester square in London organised by Fo Guang Shan (佛光山). The other images show the temple marking the place where the Buddha was born and a statue in the middle of Lumbini.

The Buddha attained enlightenment at the age of 35 while sitting under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya (Bihar, India). The pictures above were taken during the 2013 Kagyu Monlam.

The Buddha entered Parinirvāṇa at the age of 80. The moment of his passing is usually represented by the Buddha lying on his right side. The above picture was taken in Bangkok, Thailand.
