The widest lens I have for my Nikon D500 and my Nikon 1 J5 is roughly the (Full Frame) equivalent of 27mm. For a truly wide image I used my GoPro Hero 6 Black (an upgrade of my old 3+).

Sunset in Spain – Gopro Hero 6 Black, Edited in Lightroom Mobile

I was very excited to find out that this little camera has the option of shooting photos in Raw (.gpr – General Purpose Raw) format based on Adobe’s DNG format. One issue with this is that only Adobe products recognise this format. Not even Gopro’s own Quik app can work with this format. Worse is that the files are not even synchronised with Quik, making it very difficult to work with the Raw files on a mobile.

On mobile the only option is to take the memory card (and if necessary an SD card adaptor) and a memory card reader to iPhone/iPad or Android device. You can then import the files directly into Lightroom Mobile and edit the files to your heart’s content. There are very few other apps capable of opening or converting the .gpr files.

If you don’t have access to Lightroom mobile, you are stuck to working with the files on a PC. On the PC (or mac) the best option is to use Adobe DNG convertor, a free piece of software to convert any Raw file into a .dng file, as long as the Raw file is supported by Adobe.

After converting the file, you can edit the file in almost every app available and use the full benefit of shooting with a 12-bit Raw file.

I all but stopped using my Gopro and its 16mm full frame equivalent lens, and take wide-angle raw images (DNG) using the 13mm equivalent lens on my iPhone. It is not as if I ever used the camera as an action camera. On travels I now even prefer the 13, 24, 28, 35, 48 and 120mm lens options on the iPhone, with the option to immediately edit and share, rather than lugging around the Nikon D500. Even adding a Moment anamorphic or x2 lens, does not add any noticeable weight.

Without the need to use Lightroom mobile for the GPR files, I can now switch away from the ever increasing cost of using Adobe.
